Matariki Legend

Along long time ago even before Miss Lagen was born Papatuanuku and Ranginui had seven beautiful daughters named Ururangi, Waiti, Waiti they are twins Matariki, Tupuaniku, Tupuranga, and Waipunaaranigi

They wanted to see the world they begged their father Ranginui “pleasedad please” They pleaded Their father thought and thought until he said “yes”

But ... on one condition “you can be a star only at winter time so you can . . . play with your brothers 70 of them.”

What are you pregnant Mom “yes i am” When the babies are born you can take them up to the sky “I am so excited they all said” Then at winter time they were up in the sky looking over the earth with their brothers.

That is why there are seven bright and big stars and lots of little stars shining at Winter.
They teach us to spend time with family.
